|Chargé d'affaires a.i. Yang Wenxu Attending Production Restart Ceremony By JISCO Alpart|
An official ceremony was held by Jiuquan Iron and Steel Group (JISCO) to restart production for Alpart Alumina Plant on June 21. Present at the ceremony are Mr. Yang Wenxu, Chargé d'affaires ad interim of the Chinese Embassy, Mr. Fan Jianghong, Economic and Commercial Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy, Mr. Chen Chunming, Chairman of JISCO, and the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, Prime Minister of Jamaica, Hon. Michael Henry, Minister of Transport and Mining, Hon. Philip Powell, Representative of the Opposition, Hon. William Hutchinson, Minister without Portfolio, Ministry of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, Mr. Frankyn Witter, Parish Councilor St. Elizabeth, Mr. Derrick Sangster, Mayor of Black River, Mr. Lenworth Blake, Chairman of Alpart Community Council, together with representatives of workers, media and other guests.
Mr. Yang Wenxu conveyed congratulations from Ambassador Niu Qingbao and stressed that the project is a win-win cooperation for both countries.
Prime Minister Holness expressed appreciation for investment from JISCO and reiterated Jamaican government's commitment to continued support for Alpart JISCO and other foreign investments in Jamaica.
After an 8-year hiatus, with investment from JISCO, Alpart Alumina Plant resumes production on June 21, 2017, which directly creates about 700 jobs for local community and injects new impetus to Jamaican economy.
