First Shipment of Alumina from JISCO Alpart Jamaica Exported to China

On December 29, 2017, the ceremony of the first shipment of alumina from JISCO Alpart was held at Port Kaiser in Jamaica. Mike Henry, Minister of Transport & Mining of Jamaica, Yang Wenxu, Charge d'Affaires of the Chinese Embassy, Phillip Paulwell, MP and Opposition spokesman on mining, MPs Michael Stewart and Franklyn Witter, Zhang Jun, Managing Director of JISCO Alpart, Lenworth Blake, Chairman of Alpart Community Councils joined others at the ceremony and delivered speeches. Economic & Commercial Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy Fan Jianghong was also present at the ceremony.

In July 2016, JISCO acquired Alpart from UC RUSAL for USD299 million, making it the first production capacity cooperation project between China and the Caribbean. In June 2017, Alpart which has been shut down for eight years resumed production.The first batch of alumina was produced in early October 2017. This first shipment, which has a total of 35,000 tons of alumina, will be exported to China.
